“Focus On The Family” brings socks to the Ukrainian orphans

In the month of March 2006, more than 30 orphanages and boarding schools throughout Ukraine received humanitarian aid – new socks collected by US citizens in the framework of a project sponsored by a famous Christian magazine “Focus of the Family”. Although it may seem that socks are not such a wonderful gift, the reality shows that it’s hard to live without them too. Every year a child in an orphanage receives 5-6 pairs of socks which is not enough. It is known that children like to run, jump and play football which is good for health but destructive for the socks. Besides, some of the socks get lost in the wash. We have received many letters of gratitude from the staff of the orphanages and from the children themselves: Natasha, a social orphan cared for by the “New Life” Social child care center, in the city of Nickolayev, has written us: «My name is Natasha and I am 15 years old. I graduated from the high school having completed 9 grades. I was the only child in the family – no other siblings. I used to live with my mother and I always had something to eat, something to wear and we owned a flat. In September 2005 my mother started drinking heavily. She sold the flat, left her job and it has been 7 months already since I have not been living with my mother. I come to the social care center to eat. If it hasn’t been for the Center, I don’t even imagine what I would do. I would probably have nothing to wear. That’s why I am so thankful for these cool and wonderful socks. If it hasn’t been for you, I would have probably become a street person or would even die. I am not working now and can’t provide for myself, can’t buy food or clothes. I am thankful to you, kind people that you are giving us such wonderful gifts!
